There are many advantages of filing your self assessment tax return ahead of the deadline:

Reduction of errors

When you prepare your tax return in a rush at the last minute to meet the deadline, you are more likely to make a mistake. It is therefore important you get your tax return completed well ahead of the deadline to get a more accurate tax return.  Careless error could cost you a lot.

Planning

Preparing your records early will leave enough time for your accountant to consider if there are any tax planning opportunities available, such as making sure you have utilised all of your tax reliefs and allowances.

Cash flow

Once your tax return has been prepared, your tax liability can be calculated. Payment of your income tax liability for the year ended April 2017 is due by 31st January 2018. The sooner you prepare your return; the sooner you can start looking at your finances and deciding on what you need to put aside to cover your tax bill.

Avoid penalties and interest

Filing your tax return late, results in harsh late filing penalties. If you are late with your tax payments, you will face interest and possible late payment penalties.

Get the peace of mind you need by filing your return early. Do not leave your return until the New Year; get it done early before the Christmas festive period.
